Authenticity in social media can make or break your brand

If you’re really not who you say you are, you’re going to lose a lot of followers. Unline more traditional media – like television, radio or newspapers, some of which actually take pride in being able to con their audience – social media followers are for the most part well aware of traditional media bias. For this reason, denizens of the Twitterverse can usually spot a fake from 140 characters away. Social media users don’t want gimmicks, they don’t want phonies and they certainly don’t want to be pandered to. Five reasons to get on Facebook

I sometimes forget that there are still people who have yet to discover the fun and exciting vortex of wasted time that we all know as Facebook. Then I forget who I live with and ask my wife if she saw so-and-so’s status update today, only to remember that she canceled her Facebook account almost six months ago. That led me to thinking, why should she be on Facebook at all? Why should any of us? For that matter, why shouldn’t we be on the world’s most popular social network?

You could soon search the web through Facebook

Because that’s what the world needs is yet another behemoth search engine. Still, there’s revenue to be tapped there and Mark Zuckerberg isn’t stupid. With all Facebook’s resources and capital, I’m surprised it’s taken this long to start diving into what amounts to Google’s private swimming pool.

The speculation began earlier this year, when Facebook became a publicly traded company. According to Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Zuckerberg’s Facebook page changed slightly and “web pundits speculated the image showed a prototype of a new Facebook search engine.” And apparently Zuckerberg isn’t denying it.
